This research had for objective to determine the elements of cultural substance inside of the wota community. With the analysis of the different aspects of the community, through survey, ethnography, semiology, we can gather that the community correspond to the four criteria indicating the existence of cultural substance. It is however important to separate on the level of autonomy for example, the foreign wota community and the Japanese one, as their relationships regarding media and commerce focussing on idols are different. It can also be said that as much as the community distinguishes itself from other groupings, it can be visible that members of the community also partake in activities in other groupings, either related to a larger music interest or not. They all share the same idea that as long as you’re interested in the idol industry, you are an idol fan, making it accessible for people to join the community. The most interesting point is the importance of commitment, towards the members of the community but most importantly towards the idols, the converging interest of the community. Either through spending time talking about idols, involving yourself in birthday projects or spending money on merchandising, it is considered necessary to support the idols to be accepted.
It could be interesting to focus another research more deeply into the community, on the Japanese side of the community or the oversea one. It can also be said that this research interrogated how the wota community sees itself, but the idol community as a whole also involves the idols themselves, their managers and staff. It could be considered to focus on how the industry sees it relationship with its customers, the fan community. The interdependence between one another is a defining element of the community, as every interaction is first made thinking of the idols the fans support before the community they are part of. Treating this community through the eye of fandom study could be also relevant as before anything else, the wota community sees itself as fans, supporting a piece of cultural element.
